Camden Council have ambitious targets to reduce their carbon emissions by 40% by 2020 and one of the key stages to their plan is the first phase of a District Heating Network which would initially connect 4 housing estates, providing heat and hot water from a central energy centre.
The role
The primary purpose of this role will be to lead the delivery of Camden’s carbon reduction programme by identifying and supporting the delivery of carbon reduction projects across our own estate and operations. The post holder will manage the Carbon Reduction Fund; which finances the identified projects, and support the calculation and lead the reporting of the Council’s carbon footprint to elected members and Government. Develop annual carbon management plans that describe progress against Camden’s carbon reduction targets and project future performance. Working with the Carbon Management Board, you will ensure that the overall programme is delivered effectively and efficiently.
You will hold responsibility in supporting the development and implementation of other aspects of the Council’s environmental sustainability strategy and policies as required including supporting the delivery of Camden’s award winning Somers Town Energy project www.camden.gov.uk/de
The award-winning Somers Town Decentralised Heat Network is delivering heat and hot water to the residents of Camden and has been designed with expansion in mind, allowing it to grow into one of London’s major heat networks.
About you
You will be involved in driving forward an award winning, business focussed environmental programme in the heart of London; working with a friendly, committed team and this opportunity will give you a chance to make a real difference to Camden and London’s environmental work.
You will have good knowledge and understanding of environmental sustainability and carbon reduction strategies and carbon management processes. With excellent written and verbal communication skills, you will have the ability to build and maintain stakeholder relationships, express, and present information accurately. A proven track record of implementing carbon reduction and carbon management initiatives as well as experience of working in multi-agency partnerships is required.
A relevant degree/ professional qualification or equivalent is desirable but not essential.
