For Falkirk Council employees this is a secondment opportunity. Prior to application please obtain confirmation from your current Line Manager that you can be released to take up this secondment opportunity, should you be successful.
Your role is to increase safety, reduce risk and improve the emotional and mental health of the women partners and ex-partners of the men on the Caledonian Programme for men who have committed domestic abuse offences. This will involve ongoing contact with women and regular liaison and information sharing with Caledonian workers, men’s case managers and other professionals, such as child care Social Workers and Officers and civilians from Central Scotland Police Domestic Abuse Unit. You will also have a role as an advocate on behalf of women.
Experience of working in the field of domestic abuse, working directly with women and working in partnership with multi-agency partners is essential. Knowledge of the issues facing women experiencing domestic abuse, national and local policies in relation to domestic abuse are essential as is knowledge of current research on the issue of domestic abuse and effective responses to this. You should be educated to at least a Higher National Certificate level or hold a SVQ 3 in a relevant subject, such as Social Care.
Experience and understanding of the Criminal Justice System is desirable as is knowledge of the Criminal Justice National Standards, national and local policies and procedures in relation to Child Protection.
You will be based within the Forth Valley Accredited Programmes Team, which is part of Falkirk Council Criminal Justice Service. You will be based in Falkirk, but will work across the Forth Valley area with statutory and non-statutory agencies and partners. You will receive specialist training and ongoing supervision for this role.
You must have a current driving licence.
The Women’s Services Worker post is only open to female candidates – Section 7(2) of the Sex Discrimination Act applies in this case.
You must be prepared to work flexibly to meet the needs of the client group.
You will be required to attend and pass a Caledonian assessment centre for the Women’s service and then attend specialist Caledonian training before undertaking this role.
This post is temporary until June 2018 pending future Government decisions on continued funding.
