Role Profile
INTERNAL TO NORTH AYRSHIRE COUNCIL EMPLOYEES ONLY

Start time is 7.00am in Lamlash, Isle of Arran.

Due to the start time, you must be based or have accommodation on the Island.

ROLE DEFINITION

To drive and be responsible for any allocated vehicle within the service’s comprehensive fleet, to assist in the operation of the service, and to supervise any necessary crew.

KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Corporate Responsibilities

  • To undertake individual role in line with the Council’s Strategic Priorities and in compliance with the Council’s corporate policies and procedures.
  • To undertake any other reasonably required duties as instructed by Management or someone acting on their behalf, in addition to the role specific tasks & responsibilities detailed below.

Role Specific Tasks & Responsibilities

  • To drive and be legally responsible for any allocated vehicle in compliance with the Road Traffic Act, the Scottish Traffic Office Operator Licence and the Council’s Code of Practice for Drivers.
  • Vehicle checks and routine maintenance of any allocated vehicle and any power mechanism which may be fitted.
  • Reporting of vehicle defects – including accidents – to the vehicle maintenance contractor and ensuring that servicing schedules are adhered to.
  • Cleaning of any allocated vehicle
  • Where applicable, the collection and removal of household, industrial, commercial and recyclable refuse / waste from a variety of locations, either within a planned round or in response to stakeholder requests / complaints.
  • Any necessary tipping of collected refuse / waste at disposal sites or recycling centres.
  • If necessary, the transportation and supervision of the crew, with responsibility for operational practices, crew health & safety and conduct.
  • Ensuring, with the crew, the best operational relationship between the service, members of the public and all other relevant stakeholders.
  • Completion of associated worksheets, vehicle log books, vehicle defect sheets and if necessary, the recording and presentation of both analogue and digital tachograph records, ensuring compliance with the Legal Requirements of driver hours & working time regulations.
  • Use of Council systems to report progress of allocated work rounds / programmes.

High Risk Drivers

This post will require you to carry out high risk driving duties. Preferred candidates will therefore be required to complete a Driver’s Health Questionnaire which will be verified by your GP. Please note any costs incurred for the GP verification will be met by the preferred candidate. An Occupational Health Assessment will then be undertaken to determine your fitness for work.
