Facilities & Estates are seeking to appoint a suitably qualified, enthusiastic and adaptable manager to lead and manage Mechanical Engineering teams across the sites of Brighton & Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust (BSUH). The sites are situated in Brighton and Haywards Heath
For this permanent post, we are looking for someone who:
• Is a team player with demonstrable and proven experience in successfully leading and managing a team of staff
• Is experienced in management of maintenance as it applies to electrical services within a hospital or similar complex environment
• Has excellent theoretical and practical mechanical engineering skills and an ability to solve complex problems in a dynamic fast moving environment.
• Has good written and verbal communication skills; the job requires you to interact with hospital staff and contractors across a wide range of clinical and non clinical disciplines.
• Takes responsibility for the interpretation of technical standards, regulations, and codes of practice relevant to hospital mechanical services (in accordance with relevant legislation) to ensure that our buildings are safe and available at all times for their intended use
• Will undertake the role of Lead Authorised Person for electrical engineering and as an Authorised Person for medical gases
Engineering maintenance is core to this role and as the holder of a management role you will be responsible for managing reactive and preventative maintenance processes/ procedures for a wide range of electrical services such as lighting, power and distribution; electrical generators; uninterruptible power supplies; and fire alarm systems. You will ensure that all appropriate maintenance procedures and processes are implemented and adhered to by our in-house staff and specialist contractors.
The role requires a broad, in-depth knowledge of mechanical and electrical engineering systems, related legislation, standards (particularly the HTM series of documents), and safe systems of work. Therefore a degree level qualification (or equivalent) in an Mechanical Engineering related area is preferred, but consideration will be given to applicants who have a good level of knowledge and experience relevant to the post, where this experience is underpinned by proven success.
Participation in an emergency on-call rota system is essential.
• Posts in the Trust are subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Criminal Records Bureau to check for any previous criminal spent and unspent convictions, reprimands, and cautions.
• Appointment to this role will commence at the lowest salary point unless confirmed otherwise by HR Employment Services (Recruitment, Administration & Terms and Conditions)
