A position has arisen within SRUC’s Carcass Evaluation Unit, currently based in Auchincruive, near Ayr. The successful applicant will take on the role of managing a team of up to 15 staff in a licenced poultry processing plant, where poultry is processed and portioned in order to generate high quality data on carcass and component weight and quality, and will be responsible for providing collected data to the costumers involved (e.g. Aviagen).
We are looking for a person with experience and knowledge of all aspects of poultry processing, with a minimum of an Intermediate Food Hygiene Certificate. The processing plant operates to commercial standards at pilot scale, which necessitates possession of valid Intermediate/Advanced HACCP qualification as well as Health & Safety certification. Experience in management of staff in a supervisory role is essential. Both data handling and staff management rely on being literate in all Microsoft PC packages. This position requires creative skills and a flexible, problem-solving approach to overcome challenges, taking initiative and responsibility for proposed solutions, and a team-working attitude.
The current location of this post is in Auchincruive, near Ayr, until 31 December 2019 (approximately) and Bush Estate (Midlothian) thereafter, as the Carcass Evaluation Unit and its posts are scheduled to relocate to a brand new state of the art unit located at Bush Estate, near Edinburgh.
This is a full time role and will be filled on a fixed term contract basis up to 31 December 2019. The duration of this contract is subject to review and, if extended, assistance for relocation may be offered under SRUC’s relocation policy.
